Papatsoris Athanasios

Professor Athanasios Papatsoris, MD, MSc, PhD, FEBU, FES, is a Primary Professor of Urology and runs a private practice in Athens. He also works at the 2nd University Urology Clinic at Sismanogleio Hospital and performs surgeries at the Eugenideio Therapeutic Center.

Professor Papatsoris holds a Medical Degree (MD) from the University of Patras and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Athens. He also has a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Medicine from the University of Athens and in Health Unit Management from the Hellenic Open University. He specialized in Urology in London and Athens (Sismanogleio Hospital) and completed a two-year fellowship in Endourology and Laparoscopy in London and Le Mans, France. In London, he became an Endourology Fellow (FES), completing a two-year subspecialization program officially recognized by the Endourological Society (he recently received the ‘Arthur Smith Endourology’ award). In Le Mans, he completed a Clinical Fellowship in Laparoscopy, supported by the European Association of Urology (EAU-European Urological Scholarship Program). He held a Senior Endourology Fellow position at Bart’s Hospital in London for two years (Consultant grade with on-call duties) and an Honorary Consultant position (Director grade) at Royal London Hospital and Imperial College Hospital in London. He also holds a similar position at Addenbrooke’s Cambridge University Hospital and serves as a Scientific Collaborator at the European University of Cyprus (EUC), a Visiting Full Professor at the Lebanese University of Beirut, a Visiting Professor at the University of Basrah, College of Medicine, and a Visiting Professor at Guangzhou Medical University.

Professor Papatsoris is an Associate Board Member of the EAU Section of Urolithiasis (EULIS), the European Society of Oncological Urology (ESOU – prostate cancer committee), the European Society of Urotechnology (ESUT), the EAU Section of Andrological Urology (ESAU), the South Eastern Group of Urolithiasis Research (SEGUR), and Urology in Emerging Countries (u-MERGE). He is an EBU Delegate, an SIU Delegate for the Academy of Endourology-UCARE Board, a Board Member of the Hellenic Urological Association (HUA) for the third term, President of the Urogenital Oncology Department, General Secretary of the Hellenic Research Group for Urogenital Cancer, and a Board Member of the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Biomedical Research (IMBE). Additionally, since 2007, when he became a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU), he has been an EBU examiner and currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the EBU Examination Committee.

He has over 230 publications in PubMed-indexed journals, with an h-index of 40 and more than 5,000 citations.

He is on the editorial board of over 30 medical journals and regularly delivers lectures and performs surgeries at scientific events in Greece and internationally.
